Fitness model revealed what her body really looks like without Instagram filters

It’s not really a breaking news that Instagram can feel like a fantasy land where every selfie is filtered to perfection. Nonetheless, it can be helpful to stop and remember how easy it is for people to manipulate their appearance, especially when showing what might be an unattainable physical ideal.

In a recent article, fitness model, trainer and bodybuilder Joss Mooney underscored this point with a “transformation in a second“photo showing exactly how easy it is to go from skinny to shredded without the help of much more than a deep breath, a flex and a few clicks. Posing shirtless in a side-by-side comparison of himself, Mooney already looks more ripped than the vast majority of the men in the “front” photo – sporting a muscular physique, visible abs, and a V-shaped torso.

So while it’s clear that Mooney is already unmistakably in good shape, it’s the second photo that takes things to the next level. His abs, on the one hand, are noticeably more chiseled, and his Adonis belt much more pronounced. As he confesses in the caption, there is at least a bit of sleight of hand to help achieve all that extra definition.

“There is literally 1 second between these photos, but the point is, I actually look like the left majority photo of the day,” he wrote. “So the message I want to get across is to try not to compare yourself to social media. Like walking with rock hard abs all day long is not a thing. No one on the planet does. that.”

In other words, as Mooney says, it’s important to remember that Instagram is an organized experience where the lines between reality and fantasy are blurred. It’s okay to look to others for inspiration and motivation, as long as the standard isn’t literally impossible.

“Don’t compare yourself to anyone because you are on your own path,” he says. “You’ll never be someone else, so make yourself comfortable in your own skin.”
